Re: U. of Michigan Law School '11
Given that Michigan is a public school and "aims" to have around 40% resident students, it seems there is really no way to avoid having a huge number from their own undergrad. They're a selective and top ranked law school, and I'm not sure that there is any other college in the state likely to produce an adequate number of qualified students. Virginia might have a one or two other feeder schools to draw from, but I imagine they still admit a lot of UVA undergrads. When you've got a huge college population in state scattered among two or three top schools, as in California, then it's much easier to mix it up.Umich is the only listed school with 100+ students, making Umich undergrads overrepresented.

Michigan's ranking doesn't change the fact that it is a "kick ass" school. I've been so impressed with the people there.

I wasn't suggesting that as a bad thing, just that Umich undergrads do not have a higher bar set than the rest of us (as suggested by another poster).sockpuppet wrote:Given that Michigan is a public school and "aims" to have around 40% resident students, it seems there is really no way to avoid having a huge number from their own undergrad. awesome: you can take me off the list - not going to Michigan at all now. Good luck to everyone who wants to go and congratulations to all who have already been accepted.

there's no more 'accepted and undecided' list. It doesn't seem to serve a useful enough purpose for me to ever have to edit it again.

UPDATED 1L SECTION SCHEDULES (As of 4/24/08):
(updated to include JJ White for Summer session Contracts)
As mentioned earlier, the 1L schedule has changed since the one I posted last month.
I looked over the schedules, and it looks like the only changes made this month have been to Section MNOP. Changes from my schedules posted last month have been marked with ****
Looks like Section MNOP's schedule has been changed a bit to accomodate the 2 visiting professors from WUSTL - Professor Schlanger and her SO, Professor Bagenstos; this includes my previously noted change that MNOP's small section has been changed from Crim Law to Torts, and Prof. Shapiro won't be teaching the Crim Law section as previously noted. Oh yeah, and the MNOP Civ Pro Professor is now posted - it's Professor Margaret Chon from Univesrity of Seattle. MNOP has all the visiting professors!

Hi cessy,
welcome to TLS!
were you previously a TLS lurker before the ASW and hear any of us TLSers talking about it? I met a lot of lurkers that weekend.
Anyways...check out the discussion earlier in the this thread for a Lawyers Club discussion...

I haven't seen anything from them on enrollment yet. Is there something that explains how we know what section we're in? Is it by last name? Also, is the whole 1L schedule is assigned, so we don't have to mess with picking an elective?I just noticed the rhyming professors for Section EFGH

Re: U. of Michigan Law School '11
You'll find out what section you're in the week before orientation in August.
You'll pick your elective during Winter registration, which will be in late November/early December.
The summer starters know because there's only one summer section. At least in terms of big section. They'll find out their little legal practice section at a later time.

Re: U. of Michigan Law School '11
The 1L schedule is pretty much assigned, with the exception of the elective for second semester (for Fall starters). You just have to find out what section subgroup you're assigned (one of the group letters A through P), and that's what we'll have to wait until August for (for Fall starters, that is). Above, I laid out the course schedules for the different 4 different sections. I did it because I was curious about what combination of professors each section would get, and start hoping I'd be assigned to a particular sectionsockpuppet wrote:Also, is the whole 1L schedule is assigned, so we don't have to mess with picking an elective?

Alexandria, do 1Ls get to pick electives from the general course menu, or do we get a special "child's menu" of 1L electives?

Re: U. of Michigan Law School '11
Hey, this is changing the current subject (btw, thanks Lothar!!) but are you all planning to have a car in AA? I'm thinking -no because my current car payment is $220 per month, not to mention insurance, gasoline costs, and the fact that I have never driven in wintry environs. Since I will live within walking distance of school, I am going to try to do with out. The only times I think I might want one are to pick up visitors from the airport, and to go on little day trips (with my daughter) like apple picking or something.
Anyone else?
As a second and separate question: is anyone taking the $2,500 laptop loan? I have a laptop that works fine, its a little heavy tho (6lbs). If I took the loan I could buy a small one and give mine to my daughter for her schoolwork. Its not a neccessity tho, so I am torn. Also mine is an HP with VISTA, I'm not sure what model and operating system the school prefers. I think I'm remembering something about Dell and XP, but I'll have to check.

Aha, I think I might know who mildmannered is, if she was at the last ASW.
Lothar... it's sort of a "child's menu." That is, they aren't classes that are 1Ls-only, but you also can't pick just any upper class course. Look at the current schedule for classes with footnote 16 to see what I mean.
