Damn, I was going to go but I forgot! Maybe we should make it an open call.PKSebben wrote:Yeah, I'll get one going. Can we shoot for 4pm? Some of the 1L's are in class until like 4:30. I'll pregame until you cats get there. It's hot in teh Hutch!

Yeah, let's plan lunch after callback season. I think right now the 2L's will be out of Ann Arbor more than they're in it! Maybe someone can show me how to order at Blimpies.

Yeah, exactly. I leave for my first callback mid-day tomorrow and am just too busy to come out right now, as much as I'd like to. But I can't wait to meet the new 1Ls! (and transfers)

After 2 weeks of class:
Likes:
The high-school-like atmosphere
Having a whole bunch of options as far as things to do outside the law school
Cheap beer (relative to coastal cities)
Close proximity to other schools/UG of this large public university sort of makes up for the uneven girl/guy ratio (see below).
The variety of walking-distance cheap food options.
Not-so-likes:
The high-school-like atmosphere
All the damn e-mails on the LAWOPEN listserv
The weather (already). Rainy and/or humid.
Why does this year's class have a 43% female/57% male ratio? http://www.law.umich.edu/newsandinfo/Pa ... 8.aspx#1Ls
No walking-distance department stores or large grocery stores.
How's everyone else doing?

Seriously, you don't like lawopen? Just wait. It can be downright entertaining sometimes. We even made abovethelaw this summer. And someone made a funny veiled reference to that incident in a lawopen email today, if you were paying attention.

Well, I guess I do appreciate the few gems that come through, as well as the party invitiations
But I feel like I have to wade through a bunch of want-to-buy and want-to-sell emails to get through them!

and one comment on this...I must note that this ratio is close to the overall class ratio at Michigan (and seems close to many of the other T14 classes), and not just particular to the Class of 2011. I guess on paper the ratio didn't seem so bad, but after 2 weeks in class, I'm beginning to realize the feeling of imbalance.Lothar wrote:After 2 weeks of class:

Hello everyone!
I deferred my admission but will be starting in the summer. I'm thinking about housing because I'm not sure what summer starters are supposed to be doing, especially because I was planning on living on campus my 1L year. If anyone has any advice please let me know!

There's probably nothing you can do yet. I think most summer starters sublet for the summer from a student who is away.

Subletting=living in someone's apartment and paying their rent while they're away, right?
Is it true that the lawyer's club isn't open for summer starters to live in?

That's correct. The LC doesn't open until just before the fall semester begins. And yes, subletting means temporarily taking over someone's lease (presumably while they're away).

JAG, I recommend looking into the phid house http://www.phidhouse.org/ I know a few summer starters this year stayed there just for the summer before moving into the Lawyers Club or moving somewhere off-campus. Very cheap and convenient (one block from the law quad).

I just got an acceptance for the Summer Start. I see that the program starts on May 26, but I was wondering if anyone knew when the summer semester ends. Is it immediately before the start of fall semester? Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know when and how we get our grades? Are they posted somewhere on Wolverine access? Will we get an email?

I heard Wolverine access a week or so into the semester.
I think you'll know when it happens from the alternating looks of horror and euphoria in the classroom.

There's no email, and grades don't come in all at once. You just have to keep checking wolverine access. Fall semester last year, our first grade came in not long after the semester started.

Has anyone here ever had a class with Prof Mark West (for Criminal Law) or Margaret Radin (Contracts)? Our section has them but no one seems to have any outlines or information. My friend told me about this site, so email me if you have ideas or suggestions. Thanks guys!
