If one will be attending a law school in a very high COL area and it is necessary to get additional money to cover the rent (I.E renting an apartment is prohibitive on the law schools allowance for living expenses):

How hard is it to borrow additional money from a private lender for the difference, if one needs to borrow above the federal loan budget?

That will depend entirely on your own financial situation. Why can’t you live within the law school budget?
