Cornell - 35k/yr (105K)
GULC - 34.4k/yr (~103K)
Penn - WL
NYU, Columbia, Northwestern, UVA - Haven't heard yet

I am planning as if my decision was between Cornell and GULC (which it probably will be).

Seeing as I have very similar offers from peer schools, how should I go about negotiating? I think I might have a slight preference for Cornell, but if one school gives me a significant amount of more money, I would definitely go to that one.

My first inclination is to go to GULC asking for more money, citing a high COA, and see if I can leverage that. Is this a good idea? Thanks!

There's nothing stopping you from asking both Cornell and GULC for more money and showing the scholarships you have to try and move them. Now, they may or may not move, but there's no harm in asking. Because you're not really presenting an offer with much leverage, I suggest asking for a specific dollar amount increase. Ask for more than you'd like to see, of course.

I just saw on Cornell's website that tuition alone is $61k!!!!

That is unbelievable. How does any school justify charging that much money!?!?! I have been out of school about 6 years, but my god!

I'd go to GULC with C's offer and ask for more. This may or may not work of course, but assume it does and they increase your offer to a hypothetical 130k or something.

I'd then turn around and show Cornell my shiny new offer and ask them to match/beat it.
