Getting $$$

Post by emilymoore04 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 3:14 pm

I'm planning on applying to law school this Fall. I'm not so nervous about actually getting into the law schools I'm applying to, than I am about being able to actually pay for it.

I see a ton of posts about people saying that they are $$$ from one school, and negotiated for $$$ at another.

Can anyone give me any advice on trying to get some money from a law school - either through an official scholarship or negotiations? I really don't have much knowledge on how this process works, so any information would be helpful.

Tuition amount is going to play a huge role for me when it comes to attending law school.

It's very simple. Have a really good GPA and have a really good LSAT. Nothing else is really going to matter.

Sorry guys! I should have posted more information. My LSAC calculated GPA is a 3.5. And I actually haven't taken the LSAT yet - I'll take it this June. I've taken practice exams, and those have given me scores in a range between 177-179, but again, my score isn't official.

You're taking it in June and you're already almost perfect? Are those all under testing conditions? If it is, you'll be fine. You won't need to negotiate

I wouldn't flat out say OP won't need to negotiate. I had a higher GPA and a similar (real) LSAT score to OP's testing range and was woefully unimpressed by the $ offers the T14 gave me and I applied and was accepted early.

You really think a 3.5 will get big money? Even if he gets a good LSAT he's going to drag down any T14's GPA median.

Alright. I'm studying as a hard as I can and taking many practice exams so fingers crossed that I can pull off a good score! I'm mostly nervous because I'm going to be applying a little late (mid-December, rather than September), so I can better my GPA.
