Scholarship Deposit Deadlines vs. Interview Commitments

Situation:

I have a sizable scholarship offer from law school A that requires me to respond before I will hear whether or not I receive a similar scholarship offer from law school B (the deposit deadline for law school A's scholarship is before my interview date with law school B). Also of note, I made arrangements to interview with B well before A offered me anything.

Questions:

What's the best way of handling this? Should I explain my situation to school A and ask for an extension? Or would that come across as ungrateful/selfish/a lack of interest in the school? Also, does anyone know what sort of "good practice" rules apply here? Would accepting A's offer bind me to it? Or does the fact that I would have not yet heard from B mean I can decline A (after having accepted it) without penalty (other than my seat deposit)?

Tell A you are still waiting on several decisions and would appreciate a bit more time. If they won't grant it make the deposit and then back out if a better offer comes along. Nothing will happen if you do.
