So I saw on my school's website that I can get my budget, and thus loans, increased for the purchase of a computer. Has anyone tried to do this with a receipt for an iPad?

I have, but it's totally up to your school. I purchased a laptop, iPad, and printer all at once (on same receipt) and got my budget increased for it so I got a refund check after I purchased and turned it in. My Director of Fin Aid said it's really up to how they view their risk for being audited regarding something like that.
