I am wondering if anyone has experience successfully appealing for a greater amount than eligible for via Grad Plus loans and what specific arguments or supporting documents they may have provided.

I haven't done this, but if you have expenses that bring your cost of living beyond what a school has designated as the cost of attendance, I'm pretty sure your financial aid office can adjust your loan amount. However, they have to be legitimate expenses like child care or taking care of an aged parent - wanting to live in a nicer apartment or buy a car don't count.
