Top Law Schools

A lot of people mention that the best time to negotiate for more money is after the first deposit deadline; but does that mean that you have to send in a deposit to negotiate with a school for more money?

How does this work? I would hate to deposit at three separate schools because I am trying to get more $ and I end up getting another "nah brah".
