HYS negotiations

Really newbie question, but I wanted to know under what situations HYS would increase their aid packages. I know only one case: when family/personal financial circumstances change. But what about when rival schools give better need offers? How about $$$$ merit offers? I know merit negotiations work for CCN down, but not sure about HYS. Any help would be much appreciated!

I go to one of the three and can tell you that Harvard and Yale don't do merit aid. At pretty much all levels of both Universities, aid is need-based only.
I'm 99% sure Stanford is need-only as well.
But what about when rival schools give better need offers?
I asked for more money from my school in my sophomore year and they gave me a little, but one of my parents had just been laid off. Not sure how competing need assessments from other schools would effect them. In fact, since it goes through FAFSA/Need Access, need offers should be largely consistent from every school.

Yeah dude undergrad and law school are not really comparable at all for financial aid.
However, from what I hear HYS are all need based but are very generous.
