Are ED applicants to Loyola LA still eligible for the same (grant and scholarship) aid as regular decision applicants?


Also, is (grant and scholarship) aid from Loyola need-based or merit-based?

Highly unlikely you'll get anything with an ED. That goes for an ED almost anywhere. (Michigan might be an exception, depending on stats). If you ED plan on getting no merit aid. That's the trade off for the boost

I know that common TLS wisdom says that applying ED kills chances for scholly, but as a personal anecdote, I got into UVA ED with $ and my numbers weren't particularly astounding (couple gpa .1's above median, few lsat points below median)

UVA claims to not consider ED status when evaluating scholarship $, and based on a number of anecdotes I believe this is actually true.

However, UVA should be the exception, not the rule. Most schools do not award merit aid to ED applicants. The logic is pretty obvious: If they already know you're willing to attend at sticker, why give you money when they'd rather offer it to someone who's still undecided?

Many applicants only get a nice aid package after a negotiation which includes laying out aid and acceptance info from other schools. By applying ED, you give up all that leverage and have to rely on the school's generosity. Don't expect any aid if you apply ED.

Anecdotally, Chicago, NYU, and Penn have all given aid in the past to ED applicants. Most ED applicants probably get nothing or very little because they have borderline numbers, so there's a selection bias going on

That said, it's usually just a token amount, so be prepared to shell out $220k (or more) for law school if you ED.
