Sorry if this question has been asked, but I am just curious to know because I've heard that you shouldn't report parental information if it isn't required. True or not?

And you can resubmit FAFSA with the information after submitting it without for the schools that require it, correct?


FWIW, my father claims me as a dependent. Does this mean I have to report?

I am also really interested in this...my parents also claim me as a dependent. I did not fill in the parental info section on the FAFSA (have saved but not submitted). Let's get some answers!

You shouldn't need your parental information. Since all of us will be applying for a graduate program for the 2012-2013 academic year we are considered independent students and parent information is not needed on the FAFSA.

EDIT: I guess I should have read more into the question. There may be some schools that require that you include it in the FAFSA but generally, it is not required. Many schools will tell you if you call or you can probably find it on their financial aid web page.

As far as I know most schools that need parent information have their own form. You don't do it on the FAFSA.

+1. schools will have their own separate form to gather the parental info.

Berkeley requires parent's info on FAFSA. Most all other schools do not, but require it on the Need Access instead.
