I am a month away from applying and would like to have a fee waiver, since I'm self financing my applications and it's going to cost me a lot. Any advice on how to make sure I get some waivers based on need, etc?

Ask LSAC for a fee waiver. Those are tough to get but if you are poor enough you'll get one. If not, solicit individual schools for fee waivers.

Through the schools. They use CRS to search for applicants and either send them out via email or apply them to your application on LSAC without telling you.

Just a random question about the Candidate Referral Service: I have a self-reported GPA and a transcript on file, along with my LSAT score; I was wondering if schools can/do use the transcript for the LSAC calculated GPA, or if there's somewhere else in the CRS where this is filled out.

If there's a specific school you're interested in and you don't qualify for the LSAC waiver, you can email the individual schools to get a fee waiver from them personally. Not every school will grant one, but lots of them will. Just send an email to the admissions office with your name, undergrad, gpa, lsat score, and a blurb about why you want to apply to that school. Often, they'll send you back a waiver.

You'll still have to pay the $12 LSAC fee, and those can add up, but in general I would say that you can save a boat load by approaching schools individually. I did!

what kind of LSAT would you need to get a non-need based fee waiver (from soliciting individual schools)? Over the school's 75% median? Over 170? Success stories would be great
