Do all schools give out need-based grants or only some schools do that? Also, is there anything better than taking out GradPlus loans....does that new law about not having to pay more than 15% of your monthly income to student loans apply to Grad loans?

All the reputable schools give out need-based grants. Plenty of terrible T4s don't give any need-based assistance (cough TJSL).

GradPlus is a federal loan, so it qualifies for IBR and loan assistance if you go into public service work.

Maybe all reputable private schools? I was well above Rutgers 75th percentile LSAT score and around their median GPA. They gave me a $8,000 merit scholarship (~75th percentile scholarship award.) However, my family makes well below the poverty line and the school gave me $0 in need based grants. I would not find it surprising if this was the same for state schools across the country.

The bright side is Rutger's tuition is very low because they are a public university and New Jersey gives (limited) need based grants regardless of the University attended.

It would be nice if more information was available on this but schools don't give out the numbers and the poor tend to be a tiny fraction of TLS.


*Note: New York gives need based grants only to undergraduates. Graduate and professional students are only eligible for loans.
