Hey guys,

I really need some advice on getting loans over the cost of attendance.

I decided to go to UGA law given the extremely low in-state tuition compared to private law schools but after calculating everything I have figured my expenses (including previous credit card debt, etc) will be about 5-8k pass the COA for the school. Is there any way to get financial aid over the cost of attendance or am I just SOL.

yes you can ask the financial aid office to increase your COA and get more loans. they probably have a form for this.

COA is just a general guideline for the average student. Every school has a policy for adjusting COA but schools vary on what expenses they consider valid reason for adjustment. For example your local COL (rent, utils) and car expenses (if you need a car) are acceptable reasons for adjustment but CC debt is not AFAIK. It wouldn't hurt to ask them though or at least look up the policy.

There are private student loans too, but I would avoid them if possible
