Top Law Schools

Ok so I recieved a scholarship offer from Texas Tech and was somewhat surpised that I only recieved $1,000 per year. I have an LSAT of a 163, a 3.37 GPA, and an extremely strong resume. I had expected, and been told by a friend of the Dean, to recieve at least a half scholarship. Oklahoma, which is ranked number 71 as opposed to Tech being TTT, has offered me over $33,000. Should I be surprised at this offer? I have heard that law schools are really scaling back scholarships right now but didn't think it would be this drastic.

Maybe they just forgot a zero. Call to confirm.

If I were you I would double-check it, especially if peer schools are offering 10x as much. It sounds like they may have forgot a '0', but perhaps 1k per year scholly is what they are offering. If so that would be the first time I've heard of a merit scholly that low.

It seems tech really lowered the amount of their scholarships after the new year. I applied 11/01 and received 12000 as a in state resident with a 161 3.82 and no significant softs

Some undergraduate public universities grant one resident status for in-state tuition purposes if receiving any merit scholarship of at least a certain amount. Although, I have no idea if Texas Tech has such a practice. If Texas Tech does, then the $1,000 scholarship would entitle you to in-state tuition rates, as well.

It is my understanding that the state of Texas allows for in-state tuition if a OOS gets 1k or more

that is correct

Spoke with the Dean this morning. Apparently due to the fact that Tech is trying to bump its median GPA, they are only giving out substantial scholarships to people with a 3.6 or above. Dean was really nice about it and apollogized a lot, saying he gave the $1000 to make sure I knew they were interested but that he had no room to work against the faculty making the push...and kind of hinted that they are rather broke when it comes to scholarships right now.
