Negotiating scholarships in the T14?

Hi, so far I have been accepted to NYU and to Northwestern. Northwestern offered me a 150k scholarship, essentially full tuition, under the condition that I work for a year prior to matriculation (though it does not matter what I do). I am wondering if this offer will have leverage to negotiate with NYU? And when do I inform NYU of this offer?

I am so confused about how to negotiate. Any advice would be most appreciated...!

I doubt NYU would give you much, maybe 20K, if that. What your goals are matters more, as well as how debt averse you are.

Just wanted to say that is the oddest stipulation I have ever seen. Though I guess it doesn't surprise me coming from NU.

strange, right? they say 95% of their class has work experience prior to matriculation. i guess they help manufacture that statistic lol

There were a handful of people last cycle that reported the same offer. IIRC these people had high numbers that raised both medians and were coming straight from UG.

I must say, it's a pretty amazing offer.

This is not at all unusual for Northwestern.

Neither is a generous scholly offer, which puts you at something of a disadvantage if you try to use the offer as leverage with peer schools.

Here is what I consider to be the single most valuable thread ever to be found on this site. It's about negotiating merit aid:

All the best as you decide what to do.
