Scholarship Negotiation...

Hey everyone,
I recently recieved a scholarship to a school, but they require a certain class ranking for it to be renewed. I'm happy with the dollar amount, but I would like to negotiate away the class rank requirment. Does anyone have any tips/experience in doing this? I'm worried about coming off as a slacker if I ask for the requirment to be dropped. Thanks.
