Never co-sign for anyone ever.

Unless they are your direct offspring getting their first car / credit card, and maybe not even then, depending on how big a screw-up your kid is.

Always a bad move. If you want to help them, give them a monetary gift. Don't make it a loan, because chances are you'll never see it again. Even if your kid/friend isn't a deadbeat, if s/he falls on hard times, you don't need him/her to drag you down too.

It boggles my mind that people do this. Let alone when they do it for boyfriend/girlfriend/buddy.
