NYU Scholarships/Aid 2010: Root-Tilden (RTK) & Dean's

Post by benewagain » Thu Feb 25, 2010 12:41 pm

So far looks like at least 2 TLS'ers have been invited to interview for the Root-Tilden at NYU (one got a call on 2/17; not sure about the other). I called admissions today (2/25) and they wouldn't comment on whether not having heard by now means one is out of the running. They said to wait to March 12. Has anyone else heard? Thoughts?

Also wondering about the Dean's Scholarship. People were invited on 2/12 but does anyone have any idea if there will be another round?? Or if invitations to interview for the named scholarships + Dean's are mutually exclusive? Any thoughts from past years?

I called and asked if getting the Dean's scholarship meant you didn't get a named and they said not necessarily. Also asked when we'd hear back about the Dean's and they said mid-late March, just FYI.

It seems like more are coming. But I'm still not hugely optimistic for the RTK. I would guess the vast majority of invites will go to people with HYS numbers.

Just heard from someone who was only called for RTK yesterday, so there is hope!

Does anyone know if you need to have your financial aid forms in to be considered for the RTK? I think I remember reading that somewhere and now I can't find that info...

Just got called, one day after submitting my aid forms - so maybe? Might just have been a coincidence, though, as it seems like they'd make this more widely known if this were an official policy?

I received my invitation to interview for the RTK weeks before I even submitted my financial aid application, FWIW.

Just got an e-mail today stating that all finalists have been contacted. I had applied for the IILJ scholarship but the e-mail referred to all named scholarships. Guess that's the end of that....

Just FYI, for those of you that go to the finals for the named scholarships, even if you lose a pretty nice Dean's Scholarship is waiting for you (speaking from personal experience). Good luck! You'll end up pretty well off either way.

EXTREMELY generous Dean's scholar award last week. I can't access the letter and remember exact dollar amounts but it was something like 45 + 45 + 25/45 (depending on whether or not I do firm work). Very exciting.

I got one of those. Seems like it's good news if you didn't get one. (re: naruhodo)

I applied for the RTK and haven't gotten a call or an email. I'm surprised...I really thought I'd get an interview. Guess that's what happens when I'm overconfident...

Reviving this thread for 2011 in hopes that someone who had an interview last year might come join us with some insight.

Who here is interviewing and for which scholarship?

Anyone know more about the interviews/tips/etc?

I'm interested in how much the Dean's scholarship is if we don't get RTK.

I interviewed and was offered the RTK last year, so I can try to answer any questions you might have. I did my interview over the phone though, as I was abroad at the time, and I don't remember the interviews in great detail, though.

I'm interviewing for AnBryce and RTK. AnBryce sent an email this last week saying that we would get our panel's bios later this week. And I don't know what your RTK caller told you, but mine said it's a 7 person panel with a federal judge, alums, and current scholars. And we're supposed to be getting contacted/contact info shortly of the current RTK 1Ls who can answer our questions. Hopefully they can give us some insight!

Based on LSN, I am guessing around $50,000 - $75,000.

Total or over 3 years? Because 25,000/year isn't really amazing, but $75,000 for one year is over COA.

Hmm, I think people typically put what it is for all three years.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
