I wanted to start a thread listing the schools that have a Yellow Ribbon program and discussing how to get it and all the other details. If anyone is receiving this money please tell us about what sort of bureaucratic hoops you had to jump through to get it. I listed the schools that I was interested in or those that had information readily available. I'll update this as I receive feedback from others.

Don't they already have this on the VA's site? Also, you may want to clarify that only us veterans with the Post 9/11 GI bill are eligible for this. No reason to get peoples hopes up.

For what it's worth, Michigan told me that the VA is not re-signing contracts for this until March so all of the available information is for last year and may change.

Ok I assume that most of the pre 9-11 have either used their GI bill or are rapidly approaching the 10 year limit that the old system had. There are obviously some exceptions like a friend of mine who is in the reserves and hasn't done 90 straight days (or whatever the minimum actually is now).

They do have this on the VA site. So I am not trying to add any new information here. I am hoping that other people with experience will clarify what is posted there. Perhaps you were in the Air Force where life seems to be user friendly. I was in the army where they lost every single piece of paperwork I ever filled out and nothing got done without serious bartering by "Radar" O'Reilly. In any event, I've read that the VA was running 8 weeks behind on reimbursing benefits from the post 9-11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program but they have improved things so they are only running 3-4 weeks behind now. SO lets use this discussion board to figure out what we can expect when we apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

I spoke to the financial aid person at UVA today. She said she has received a lot more inquiries for the Yellow ribbon program than there are scholarships available. There are going to be 5 scholarships available again next year. Three of which will go to 2Ls and 3Ls because when the scholarship is awarded the school must award it until graduation. That leaves two scholarships available for 1Ls and it was not clear if there are upperclassmen who are going to be applying as well. If so you can bet they got their paperwork in first ad these are first come, first serve.
Some schools like Vanderbilt offer scholarships to an unlimited number of students so we don't have to compete to be the first to hand in our forms.
