Hey guys,

So after some research I found that Harvard admits ~ 20 - 30 Hispanic Men, and a few less Hispanic women per year. The numbers vary from year to year, but it seems to hover around these parameters. The point of this thread is to round up all us Hispanic HLS hopefuls, to get a feel for the applicant pool, and to give advice/support during the cycle.

Wow, hispanic enrollment is less than half of what it was a few years ago. Thats depressing to see. In fact, I read that hispanic enrollment at law school is decreasing across the board for the past decade.

oops, the top figure includes ALL (1L, 2L, 3L) students enrolled in 2008-2009 (that is, Class of 2011, Class of 2010, AND Class of 2009). The bottom figure is just the most recent class. Sorry for not being clear.

Edit: Also, where did you read about lessened hispanic enrollment? On the test-taking end of things, stats from LSAC show the number of hispies taking the LSAT from 2001-2008 rose at a faster rate each year than any other ethnicity; # went from 4,600 to 6,300.

This makes sense when you look at general population increases in the Hispanic/Latino population over the past decade. Declines in enrollment are less easy to explain, but I imagine since we, as a whole, tend to under-perform in both college and on the LSAT, this should not be surprising. For example, an increase in the number of Puerto Ricans applying won't change the fact the median LSAT for PRs is a really sad 138.

I'm not sure about this, and I imagine each school can and would fugde the lines, but it makes sense. w/o residency you would probably be considered an international applicant like in undergrad. I'd bet money you would be included in their Latino counts though.

Yeahh, difficult to say what the turnaround is. Some people hear really quickly, others not for a while. Last I checked, no URMs had gotten a JR1, so it may be that a batch will go out soon.

No, I'm not Japanese. A long long time ago my great grandparent's grandparents (or something like that, not really sure) left Japan for Peru, so I have no ties to Japanese culture. I consider myself Peruvian and Hispanic.
