I too want to purchase my ticket, but I do not think we get the specifics until we pay the remainder of the balance. I will be at SIU.

Umm..Anyone book flights yet? I'd like to go ahead and book mine while they are still cheap, but I'm not sure exactly what day/time to get there.

I'm confimed for Univ of Pittsburg campus.
bonesinger wrote:I read last years thread for CLEO, some people didnt get their info until like 1-2 weeks out from CLEO, it depends on how each location will handle our room/food/transportation etc...

I think we will get an email from the director of the program for the location u are attending.
I would contact CLEO to get in touch with pitt, last year the school director said that u had to send them ur flight info to confirm so they can make accommodations for you.

Who knows, to them, the more competitive the better. It is just a pain for us.

I talked to one admissions dean and he told me its because they were not able to fill in the seats with candidates that were a fit with CLEO. Just because over 900 people applied does not mean they all are necessarly the type of candidates CLEO is looking for. That is why some people are accepted after a week or two applying right before the dead line. That is also one of the reason they extended the dead line.

Again this is the what one admissions dean who knows about CLEO told me, it may or may not be the actual reason.

This is probably true. I next- day aired my application the same day the CLEO 09 app was placed on the website. I am guessing because my LSAT and GPA were pretty low, I was given the letter " We are unable at this time to place you in CLEO... so on". I just hope that at least one of the 8 schools I applied to will give me a chance! However, 900 applicants... I still don't get why they extended the deadline. My opinion, I thought CLEO was to help those with "low LSATs and GPAs who otherwise without CLEO would not be accepted into any Law School" :?

True. But you must remember that you have to be nominated in order to be accepted. If not enough nominations have been made for students with low numbers and have a disadvantaged background, then they had to extend the deadline. I hope you get nominated, that should clear up your issue.

I guess I was thinking along the same lines as you. I am happy for those of you who have been accepted but it seems that CLEO should change their mission statement. I thought CLEO was for the applicants who needed something extra to make them more attractive to law schools because of low gpa's and lsat scores. Im so frustrated.

Well, I guess my question is how do I go about the nomination process? My Applications to law schools went complete in December and are still pending as we speak. Do I have to sell a kidney or what in order to be picked, lol.

No just maybe a leg. I dont know because I have the distinct honor of being deferred until March...and just to state the obvious, it is March. I think CLEO sends your name to the 8 schools that you listed in hopes of getting one of them to nominate you for the program. Is there anybody from the great state of MISSISSIPPI on here?

Been lurking and reading this thread for awhile but I feel the intensity of everyone’s frustration so I’ll share what I did.

I applied back in November. Was accepted in early February. I’ll be a SIU. My personal statement focused on my life growing up in a small rural town.

After I applied I faxed every acceptance and waitlist letter to CLEO. I also contacted the schools that accepted me to ask about their CLEO nomination process and if they would consider nominating me. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Other than that all you can really do is just be patient. It sucks (I’m still waiting on 5 law schools to reply and I went complete back in October :-( ) , but what can you do.

Just reading through this thread, do you have to be a recent graduate to apply for CLEO? I applied to many schools this cycle, and if I knew about CLEO earlier, I wold have definitely applied :( I guess it is too late? sigh.

Still not clear on the program, even after reading their website.

its a 6 week program designed to give prospective law students a crash course in a semester of law. Basically we simulate 1 semester in 6 weeks. most students who go to the 6w program have already been accepted to law school, a few may get acceptances because CLEO helps with placement (don't ride on it getting you into a higher ranked school where your numbers are slim).

Some students receive a 5k scholly after the program, everyone will get seminars during their semesters where they learn extra info etc....

Its mainly for students who were disadvantaged economically, socially etc...

Anyone considering alternative law school prep opportunities?

Allenfa - Yes! I have actually just been scouring the internet for such opportunities and they seem few and far between (unless your still in undergrad and "considering" law school). There is this Hubbard program at Iowa but their deadline just passed, one for American Indians that looks cool but I'm Puerto Rican, and I remember hearing something about Oxford, but to be honest I can't find anything that with the "replication of 1st semester of 1L" feel that CLEO has.

Any ideas people?
