Does being a first-gen student change anything?

I'm a first-gen URM and I'm wondering if this is viewed as more favorable than if I was URM but not first-gen.

Nothing substantive, but I'm sure it helps a little. It might be more of a tie-breaker if a school's on the fence between WLing you or accepting you. I also got a personal email from the dean of admissions at Northwestern about being a First-gen student so it seems like a group that schools try to actively recruit.ccmart wrote:I'm a first-gen URM and I'm wondering if this is viewed as more favorable than if I was URM but not first-gen.
