luuma wrote:Hi all,
I was wondering what you thought of this list in regards to my chances..

About me:
First LSAT: 153, Second: Cancel, Third: 155 (really bummed because I was PTing in the 160s)
Bronx, NY (socioeconomic, included in DS)
Single immigrant mother
Afro-Hispanic
Double major with minor (int'l business and economics)
2 study abroads
1 internship abroad (law firm)
1 internship at a well known corporation
Currently working at a big law firm as an assistant.
VERY involved in school, and worked throughout.

I'm trying to cut my school apps down, which should I delete? I REALLY want Fordham.

What do you think my chances are for the following:

American
BK Law
Boston College
Boston University
Cardozo
Columbia
Cornell
Duke
Emory
Fordham
George Washington
Georgetown
Northwestern
Notre Dame
NYU
St. John's
U Chicago
U Michigan
U Pennsylvania
U Virginia
U Washington
Washington and Lee

Retake. Your cancellation does not count toward the three attempt limit.

Definitely agree with the retake. It is hard to guess.

However, if you are set on Fall 2014, here are my guesses based on LSAT:

In:
American
St. John's
George Washington
Emory
U of Washington
Washington and Lee
Cardoza
Fordham

Possible:
BC
BU

Retake LSAT:
The rest

Canceling does count against your three time limit. Absence does not.

luuma, I think you have a solid shot at Fordham and should apply.

Of the top 14 in your bunch, I think you should apply to Michigan, Duke, Penn and Cornell. You're more than likely looking at a WL or Rejection from Columbia, Chicago, UVA and NYU. If you decide to send those apps out, make sure you write an LSAT and GPA addendum and have a strong application and letters of recommendation.

URM cycles are the most unpredictable. Good luck!

Most likely out at T14 unless your story is truly exceptional. Good/OK chance at all others. I'd recommend a retake for 160+.

What are your career goals?

It does count.. I'd have to wait until June to pass the 2 year limit. And I'd really like to apply for the 2014 cycle.

Thank you. I'll retake in June if I get a hopeful looking WL.

Thanks so much! You're right, upon sifting through LSN.. I've seen scattered numbers on the graphs. But I guess it keeps me hopeful. I might yank NYU and UVA off.

Thank you. As for career goals.. I'm really interested in both the private and public sector (regulation side), and super long term I like the idea of politics.

I think it's too late for that.. I definitely would have done that if I could have, back in October!

Why omit any of those schools from your list?
Sometimes there's always that chance. You have nothing to lose besides a few bucks.

Good luck.

Your numbers are pretty close to mine when I applied in 2012. I decided to sit it out and retake, and I think you should too, but here goes:

Admit:
Michigan
Wake Forest $$
UGA $$
Georgia State $$
Howard $$$ (with crazy stips)

WL/admit:
Emory
Indiana-Bloomington
W & L
Maryland
Boston U

WL/Reject:
Penn
NYU
Columbia

Reject:
Chicago
Rutgers C (still pissed at this one)
Georgetown

Yeah, Scoobers... I was on the bubble with U of Washington.

Wlee...don't sweat Rutgers C. I am sure they knew you wouldn't pick them and they didn't want you making their selectivity numbers dip when you inevitably rejected them.

I still think the OP should wait and retake...I took an LSAT prep class and raised my score 10+ points. Yeah, it was pricey...but I am more than making up for it in scholarship $$$. When else can 1-2K$ save you potentially tens of thousands.

Thanks so much for sharing your stats! Michigan looks amazing! I agree with SparkyZZZ, they knew you wouldn't go anyway. I've heard of SO many stories like this. Psh!

I'd have to wait it out until June to retake a fourth time. And I'm a little concerned that a fourth take could look bad.. But if this cycle does not go well then I won't have a choice anyway but to wait and reapply in October.

Just wanted to give ya'll a heads up.. So far in at W&L (exactly 15 days later), and was asked to interview with an admissions officer at WUSTL. These are my first two responses.. Looking good 8) . I'll set up an LSN account to give other URMs some hope/stats.

Most likely youll be looking at T1 near sticker. Retake in June to possibly get better offers at the end of this cycle. If you do significantly better on the June lsat, sitting out and applying early would probably be your best option

Don't worry about this. Generally, how many times you retake is irrelevant. All that matters is your highest score
