Anyone applying to CLEO's Six-Week Pre Law Summer Institute or planning to attend AIE in 2014? The deadline for the summer institute is February 15, 2014.

I partook in ASAP last year and thought it was a great program. I intend on applying to AIE.

I plan to do AIE in Chicago. The dates/locations have not been set for the six week institute, correct?

How will you guys do this and SEO? And $2000 seems like a steep price to pay after I would be paying my seat deposit and stuff.

I'm pretty sure most weekends are free during SEO. AIE is normally hosted on the weekends. :D

Also AIE is free, unlike the summer institute which I have no intentions of doing.

My plan is similar to AAJD2B's! I'd much rather do SEO/AIE and prob wouldn't do CLEO due to cost. I know the state of NY used to do a cleo-like program but it was suspended last year. Not sure if it was like Indiana's CLEO which is free for those admitted.

I dont think SEO will feel compelled the make movements until maybe closer to mid to late Jan when URMS are getting admitted and start really considering where they want to go since we can't be accepted until we submit a seat deposit.

+1....and correction on AIE being free. There is a $30 registration fee, which isn't so bad. 8)

I'm confused. If you get SEO, why would you need CLEO?

For me, it's about giving back. Usually CLEO AIE is hosted on the same weekend as CLEO ASAP. During the program schedule, AIE students are assigned to speak to ASAP registrants (all aspiring law students of color) during the lunch period where questions are asked and advice is sought on how to go about the application process. Not surprisingly, many URMs remain uninformed on what to expect and how to prepare for the application cycle.

In addition, there is no such thing as too much information. True, SEO's CLI is taught by the best in the industry but I am all about getting as much information as possible on how to approach 1L exams and law school in general. Also, by attending CLEO AIE I have the opportunity to expand my network and make a friend (or future colleague for all I know) or two :)

Ultimately, what you do is your choice. I pass no judgment, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I'm all about giving back. I think that aspect of your answer is very cool. But the rest... you don't need it. If you get SEO, you will spend all summer networking and getting advice about exams and 1L, not just during CLI. It will come during CLI, the weekly panels, from the people you meet at the cocktail receptions and breakfasts and luncheons. You will meet judges, clerks, partners, associates (junior and senior), pro bono counsel, summers, and your future classmates. SEO was an incredible experience, but it is exhausting. I can't imagine adding more to it and being even more tired. You just don't need to.

Can someone give some info on SEO? I was going to doing CLEO but changed my mind. SEO sounds interesting though.

What kind of schools are generally represented at SEO? T14 is a given but is a URM depositing at Cornell/Northwestern/Georgetown/Michigan given the same consideration as a YSH URM?

I think we should stop threadjacking the CLEO thread in favor of SEO. I can't speak about CLEO at all. I'm really not familiar with it.

That said, I'm happy to answer questions if you PM me or you can get a lot of the information you're looking for if you take a look through the SEO thread. I don't mean to suggest that CLEO is a bad program and only SEO is good; they both have strengths and weaknesses, I'm sure. I was just curious as to why someone would want to do both.
