Goodbye Honolulu, hello Los Angeles.danitt wrote:Hmmm.....there go my Hawaii dreams.shntn wrote:I just wanted to share this with my gays in case y'all hadn't seen the most recent update. It's the NALP's buying power index, which rates cities based on their average salaries and buying power relative to $160k in NYC. Basically there are 46 markets whose COL and average salaries make them objectively better places to live and work after LS than NYC.

Sad to see Miami ranks lower than NYC. I'd love to go back after LS but not if the money ain't right.

I'm pretty sure it used to be higher in past years. Either average salaries are dropping or COL is rising, or both. I think the average salary used to be higher, which reflects the fact that there are basically only a handful of biglaw-paying jobs in the city. The NALP stats for Miami biglaw firms are truly depressing. Hiring is straight up anemic and has been for a couple of years now. The bounceback we're seeing in other markets hasn't made it there yet.howlery wrote:Sad to see Miami ranks lower than NYC. I'd love to go back after LS but not if the money ain't right.

Though I'd imagine the 3 or 4 people who get biglaw gigs in Miami must feel like millionaires.shntn wrote:I'm pretty sure it used to be higher in past years. Aren't a few of the world's most livable cities in Australia? I'd just go for the weather + accents anyway.JayJones78 wrote:I was actually researching jobs in Australia a few months ago!
