Racial diversity in the T14 (and the T20!), by the numbers
While researching T14 schools, I've focused on racial demographics and racial diversity. Here's some of the data I collected. I looked at school-wide Hispanic, Native American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, White and Bi-racial numbers at the T14s, according to recent ABA statistics. Hope this helps you guys!
[EDIT: Halfway through the OP, I've included an analysis of all the T20 schools.]

BREAKING DOWN THE HISPANIC NUMBERS
Some things to note before you look at the analysis:
1.) The data are two years old. In 2010, the ABA stopped differentiating between MA/PR and non-URM Hispanics when reporting school demographics. So that last time we have received official MA and PR statistics was in 2010, and the data were used to create the official 2011 ABA law school guide.
2.) Be wary of the data from GW, Michigan, Minnesota, UVA and Vanderbilt. According to ABA statistics, the five schools didn't admit ANY Mexican-American or Puerto Rican students. In addition, several of the schools reported relatively large percentages of non-URM Hispanics. The data may be correct. But what could have happened is that they didn't report individual MA and PR data to the ABA. (One could assume the ABA would then double-check the data, but I'm skeptical that this would have happened.) I'll include the five schools in the rankings, but I've added asterisks to their names. I've also added a fourth position for "Smallest Percentage of Mexican Americans" and "Largest Percentage of non-URM Hispanics." This gives you the Top 3 unasterisked schools for those categories.

Just to add according to On Being a Black Lawyer, UVA and Stanford have 7% and 7.4% of black law students respectively.

Re: Racial diversity in the T14, by the numbers
Just checked all the numbers for all the races again. I got only two numbers wrong: UVA and Stanford's percentages of black students. I accidentally inputted the Asian percentages into my excel sheet. For confusing you, I apologize. I've updated the ranking above. And to show that I mean no harm, I'm going to add to this thread the analyses I've done on all the T20 schools.BlaqBella wrote:Just to add according to On Being a Black Lawyer, UVA and Stanford have 7% and 7.4% of black law students respectively.

P.S. Oddly enough, NYU is kinda bottom of the pack. 8 T14s have better percentages of black students.

If you intend on going to Minority Preview Weekend at SLS, would you mind reporting back on your experience/observation of the URM population of the school? Of the three (HYS), I always figured SLS had the smallest URM size. Would be interested to know if this has changed.

What makes me sad is that Stanford only had 2 non-MA/PR Hispanic students...
I know other Hispanics aren't considered URMs but that's still pretty sad.

Yeah those 2010 ABA official guide statistics are shocking (http://www.law.stanford.edu/facts/degre ... admissions).masked kavana wrote:What makes me sad is that Stanford only had 2 non-MA/PR Hispanic students...

http://www.law.stanford.edu/facts/degre ... admissions
What's nice is that the percentage of Hispanics has increased since then: to 12.8% (2013 guide) from 9.6% (2010 guide).
2010 official guide: 9.6%
2011 official guide: 10.2%
2012 official guide: 10.2%
Maybe now there are a few more non-URM Hispanics than just 2?
EDIT: I've included analysis on Hispanic students at the law schools. See the OP.

so if Michigan has a lot more AA URM's than MA URM's...do I get a bigger boost being MA URM since I am rarer?

Your post is excellent. Thank you.
Might I ask, what is the evidence for your proposition that there exist any "non-URM Hispanics?"

You do a disservice to the word "underrepresented" when you say that a school with 11% ___ race that accounts for 12% of the general population has an underrepresentation.... Undeniably an interesting post, but it would be even better if you add a little sophistication

Back in Grutter, SCOTUS specified Mexican-Americans and Puerto Ricans as under-represented groups. Therefore, the idea is that Hispanics from other backgrounds don't get the boost.LexLeon wrote:Your post is excellent. Thank you.
Might I ask, what is the evidence for your proposition that there exist any "non-URM Hispanics?"

Berkeley has ZERO biracial students? That's crazy. Not that it's a particular point that needs addressing versus others, but still pretty bizarre to see.

That may be true as a matter of who checked what boxes. But, I know personally that there were bi-racial students at Berkeley during the time in question.J90 wrote:Berkeley has ZERO biracial students? That's crazy. Thank you so much. Is there a way to list this for all the T14's?

i have all of that, for each racial/ethnic group, but it's a lot of information, so i don't want to just plop it in this thread. PM me which racial/ethnic group you want.ChampagnePapi wrote:Thank you so much. Is there a way to list this for all the T14's?
