My ridiculously pro-mexican grandfather always pushes me to read this magazine, and this week i've discovered a true gem. This is their list of "Best law schools"
1:UT
2: American
3: Florida State
4: Florida International
5: U of New Mexico
6: U of Miami
7: U of Florida - Levin
8: UCLA
9: U of San Francisco
10: USC
(sorry if some abbreviations are wrong, havent heard of some of these schools before).
As far as I can tell, their ranking algorithm involves mostly total and % hispanic enrollment, total and % hispanic faculty and degrees earned by hispanics.
Seems like woefully misguided criteria by which to rate law schools. I'm horrified that this magazine is supposed to represent the interests of hispanic people yet publishes shit like this. Thoughts?

I'm not trying to disparage the publication itself, and I agree UT is an awesome school. I'm applying there. I just take issue with their rankings - "best" =/= "most Hispanic".

Besides American, I barely noticed the geographic bias.

I just saw the article you are referring to (i get a subscription because i serve on my hometown's city council)
And iam a proud Tejano.
But umm,
yea the article doesn't even really try to explain how they got their results for their ranks, Austin has to be the best school of Mexican Americans, hands down--as far as regional cred goes for Political reasons.
Harvad Yale and all ivy leagues are alrite, but the thing you have to consider is that the magazine is tyring to put it into relative terms in relation to the number of the general hispanic population that make up law school applicants.
In other words, recommending Harvard as number or Yale, would be technically true, but in the end we are only talking about 20 people in the whole country.
Their list seems to be an approach that will cover a reasonably qualified candidate with a realistic application to the situation at hand.

For most law potential law students, the list should be a helpful guide. I read the list as encouraging Hispanic/Latino students to consider these law schools in addition to any others that are of interest to them.

I guess. I should mention that I'm Mexican myself, so I guess I'm a little offended at the suggestion of other Hispanic people being prodded toward some certain lower-ranked schools just because those have a high volume of Hispanics..

I'm Cuban and I think these rankings are b.s.
Go to the best school you can that places in your region. Who cares how many hispanics are there? Why should that make a difference?
