Quick stats:
female. will be 20 entering in the fall. Single mom. Lsat 168. Gpa currently 3.83 for degree 3.74 overall.
Where to apply? U Tennessee Knoxville is the only one I've applied to so far (because it's just down the road.) Pre-law advisor wants me to apply elsewhere but I dont want to spend tons of $ on apps if I won't get in.

are you AA?
If so, enjoy a T6 school.

Ask for fee waivers from schools.
Also figure out where your numbers put you into play (check out
http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com and
http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com) and apply to ones where your numbers give you a good chance of getting in so you won't be wasting money.

I am in the world of tutoring, and speak with students from all over the country - a decent number over the past two years. I've never met someone with your profile in terms of being AA, the GPA, LSAT and single mom soft, which I think should not be discounted. You're a motivation to others.
Tennessee is below you. You have a shot at HYS with the AA+single mom card.

On the tagline for this board it used non-traditional as a description. Maybe thats not URM but a diversity thing? Sorry, new to this & not real sure how to describe everything.

You can do way better than Tennessee....Ask for fee waivers and blanket your app in the Top 25. You will probably get a full-ride somewhere. Top 14 is not out of the question....

Do this, and also, yeah, you can write a diversity statement. It will be to your benefit.

if you don't mind moving to a new area (how old is your child?), then you should definitely apply to at least cornell and georgetown, where you have a good chance simply because of your numbers. don't waste (sorry) money going to tennessee.

You are already competitive with these numbers at Cornell and GULC. But the single-mom soft is really unique. I am a transfer and I haven't met anyone at either school that is a single mom (at least that I know is). This would really add diversity to the class, and I think your experience as a single mom would form an important part of your application. Since it is such a unique soft, I would also apply to schools that are more holistic in their evaluations, i.e. UMich and UPenn.
Since you are a single mom, you might consider doing GULC's part-time program, although I tend to think that even a part-time load would take up about the same amount of your free time.
In addition to the schools mentioned above, I would apply to Vanderbilt and WUSTL, as I think you would have a good chance significant scholarships there. Also, consider UCLA and USC if you are interested in CA.
Good luck in your application!

Thanks everyone who gave advice! Although I refuse to go to Vandy (sorry - too close to psycho ex-in-laws) I'll definitely take a look at the schools y'all suggested!
