I was not thinking better than NYU ranking wise. I was looking for some top-15s with money.bk187 wrote:I don't think you can expect much better than NYU. I mean you have definite shots at those schools but as a splitter it is such a toss up.
However, if you want to teach for year I would definitely do that considering you won't get that chance after law school.
I was thinking about that. I know one is perfectly fine but I'm starting to second guess the other writer. But there is know way I would be able to get another acedemic writer.CanadianWolf wrote:You probably should consider changing writers of your letters of recommendation in addition to rewriting your essays.
This seems even less of a sure thing. Did you submit optional essays and Why X essays?sojasoph wrote:I was not thinking better than NYU ranking wise. I did not write a Why essay for Virginia. (I know how much of a mistake that was) I wrote two of the optional essays for michigan.bk187 wrote:This seems even less of a sure thing. I mean if you want to take a year off and reapply I think you have a definite shot at $, but it wouldn't even be close to a sure thing and I would steel yourself for the possibility of not getting it.
One of my recommenders was a pretty young professor who had one of those "friendly" (they would go get drinks etc..) relationships with his students. I did not partake. However he selected me as the best student in one of his classes. I got a little reward. So I thought he would be a good option.sojasoph wrote:I was thinking about that. I need to start working on that.

Do you think reappling to school I got into would hurt my chances at getting accepted again?danidancer wrote:I'm solidly in the don't reapply camp. Reapplication is generally only successful if there's a drastic change in your application that will make the schools who didn't want you the first time around change their mind (99/100 this means hard numbers). And since you're already at a 178 LSAT...
NYU is an excellent choice, but don't count out your holds/WLs yet. I know someone who got into Harvard in August last year, and I myself wasn't admitted to Cornell until May.
If you want to take a year off for other reasons, I'd choose a school this cycle and ask if you can defer.
I think that the school will likely admit you again if they admitted you this cycle unless they waitlist you because they feel you are unlikely to accept.sojasoph wrote:Do you think reappling to school I got into would hurt my chances at getting accepted again?
And maybe appling in sept instead of dec would make a difference?
I find it odd that everyone waitlisted me. Could I get just one ding to make things less confusing.
I'd agree. There must have been a gap somewhere in your application. Weak LOR or PS. I still think some of those schools will let you in though. Best of Luck.esch8 wrote:As an AA male with a 178 I think you should be in everyone, regardless of your GPA. I think you should definitely go T10. AA males are really underrepresented and I think only 29 AA a year get above a 170, right.
I don't think applying in Dec is late with your URM status and your LSAT. I would wait. If you don't get in, I think there was a major problem with your application in your essay or your LORs.
I think you guys are underestimating how much schools dislike low GPAs. A lot of schools seem to struggle with sub 3.3's.mez06 wrote:I'd agree. Well, it was my top choice because I thought it was my best shot at money based off of lawschoolnumbers.dddhhh wrote:If you decide to re-apply some schools will go over your application with you during the slow months of admissions season. I'd encourage you to see what they thought your application was missing or could be improved upon. Also, since it's your top choice, have you thought about an ED to UVA?
With the UVA acceptances at least, I see that they all went to Ivy or a top public. I wonder if that mitigates the poor GPA. I thought undergrad wasn't that huge of a factor but it could have been the little nudge that got me waitlisted.LAWLAW09 wrote:sojasoph wrote:HI guys I thought I would have a little better of a cycle.
