to get into T14? I want Duke REALLY REALLY REALLY bad...i am taking the test in December. I've received fee waivers for a few schools but nothing too crazy. If not Duke then NYU, Columbia, or if none of those pan out then UF.

My diagnostic was 157 or 158...I am taking a kaplan course now. I think my PS is good. I tutored writing while an undergrad. great softs (low SES, first generation college student, and single parent home) .

What do you think? What schools are MOST likely in the T14 from either personal experience or what you've seen?

What kind of URM are you?

i'm 1/2 black and 1/2 white. i grew up with mom, black, and she was a drug user, didn't go to college, and i moved out when i was about 11 or 12 and lived with friends, a boyfriend, etc. I went to UCLA as an undergrad, graduated summa, and started grad school. got my teaching credential and 1 year from master's at ucla but decided teaching wasn't it for me. so yeah. that's me in a nutshell.

i guess they do give out fee waivers without an lsat score. i was contacted by 4 schools who invited me to apply and gave me some code.

With that GPA and other factors plus AA female, I think 162 probably gets you in. 165-168 would be best as it would get you in with money. I would hold off in regards to taking the December test, not that jumping 7 point is impossible in such a span, but it may be better to wait for the next cycle. If you keep up studying and take the June test, you have a good chance of hitting a 170+. That would bring in HYS into play, just a thought.

You get a 165 and you will be HYS bound or Duke full ride

You have a chance at Duke and any non HYS school if you get the same score you've been prepping at. (157). If you score a 160+ you will probably get at least one of Harvard, Yale , Stanford.

i am most definitely taking the december test. i'm already registered. i've been taking a prep course and it's still a month away. i'm going to start doing 1 or 2 logic game sections every other day to master them and I still have 3 more full length diagnostics. the games were my weakness on the first diagnostic and the logical reasoning my strength. after reviewing my test and knowing what i know now I'm sure I can get 160 at least. or confident that i can rather.

so what is a diversity statement exactly? do all schools ask for it or is it supplemental?

Go for a 180. Diagnostic of 157 --> natural aptitude for test --> motivation to study hard --> sexy score --> full ride at duke/in anywhere else

162 sounds right for Duke ride but you should study aiming for 180 of course. If you aim for the 160s you may fall short.
