What assignments? I have yet to receive anything from the Iowa Program. Can you share the nature of the work?

SD participants were emailed a welcome packet with general information about housing, food, classes, and events. Attached were some initial assignments they want us to complete prior to arrival: basic information about the US legal system; precedence, stare decisis, lawsuits, etc. There are also some online assessments to complete, and they will be shipping us a textbook to read prior to arrival.

Oh shit. Well if they want me to do anything before Iowa, they need to get to sendin! I have lots of work/packing/life to do before heading out, and the sooner we get stuff, the better.

I did get a text this morning from Drake University saying I was enrolled in their campus notification program, but didn't get any assignments. :|

Yeah apparently Drake uses the same notification system that my university uses. I got the same text yesterday morning as well.

Has anyone been able to access the readings assigned in the email they sent us? Everytime I click the links I'm sent to an outlook web App page that asks for a username and password.

copy & paste the link into your browsers address bar

edit: has anyone found the assigned book online? I know it's being sent in the mail but I just finished my break time book

Just received a San Diego email:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Scholars:

Morning all! I write with additional information on your initial assignments.

We learned this week that you will each need to purchase Professor Michael Hunter Schwartz's Expert Learning for Law Students book and the accompanying workbook. As we indicated earlier, you need to read chapters 1-9 of the book itself prior to arriving on Sunday, June 12th and be prepared to engage about what you've read.

You can purchase the books either from Carolina Academic Press at http://www.cap-press.com/ or from Amazon. Amazon has used copies fairly cheap.

Have a superb day!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got them both on Amazon w/ shipping for $24

Best,

Beth Kransberger

Yep. Got that book on Amazon just now. I guess I'll get started on those tests and readings in the meantime. I'm glad we finally got the class schedule!

Is anyone making a study guide for the book? I started one but it seems like Chapter 5 and 6 have a lot of info that is useless?

I dont think this is something they will formally assess us on. Having said that, an outline of the SRL cycle could be personally beneficial

Should we be filling in the workbook as we go along? I asked one of the administrators but they did not respond to that question.

I haven't looked yet, just got done with finals, but I assumed so.....I thought the directions in the email said have the assignments completed and be ready to discuss. Is the workbook kind of ambiguous?
