If you aren't Puerto Rican, you don't change your ethnicity in the hope of URM status. The fact that you have grandparents living in Puerto Rico does not make you Puerto Rican.

Can you get away with it?...
Its always a good idea to lie on your law school applications.

It depends.
What schools are you applying to?
What state do yo live in?
Undergrad gpa?
Do you plan on discussing your grandparents 30+ yr residency in your diversity statement?

Why not? People lie on their applications all the time, though, they end up getting theirs in the end. The ability to forgo morality and lie to get what you want indicates that you'll be a great lawyer.

I would encourage you to do some reading on Dion Alaniz before going through with this, though.

2011Law to his daughter: For your future's sake, marry a URM but not a Black, Puerto Rican, or Native American man.
Daughter: Can I get away with that?
2011Law: See that JD hanging on the wall...
