To the moderator/whoever knows - how much does URM matter?

I have a 3.45/161. I had hoped to barely eak into University of Washington (Seattle) with that score. However, I just got a fee waiver to University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and an invitation to apply from Georgetown within this last week.
Does being black really matter that much?
Furthermore, how much does an upwards grade trend matter? My first semester, I had a 2.7 at a junior community college. This last semester, I picked up a second major, was accepted to the honors department and pulled a 3.9 at a 4 year liberal arts college.
In short, should I stick with trying to get into schools like UW and UC Davis or would it be worth the money to apply to Cornell, Georgetown and such?

I think Cornell will take you. Try lawschoolnumbers.com and sort by URM. It's a huge bump.

Maybe not Stanford. Everything else is a wild card.

Honestly, OP will probably get CCN on down.

OP= Original poster
CCN= Columbia, Chicago, NYU
Unfortunately, LSN doesn't give us much insight into URMs since there is such little data for them, and obviously D Brooks and Hiro know URM cycles better than me, but I still think their predictions are aggressive.

161 3.4 AA male this past cycle got WL'd at CLS and into NYU and Chicago this cycle (he's attending Chi). 160 3.5 AA female got both Chicago and NYU this past cycle as well. Additionally, she got the AnBryce full-ride to NYU and is attending there.
Trust me, OP will be fine.
JUST APPLY EARLY!!

Also, in picking between an NYU and a Penn, is it snobbish of me to want Penn just because it's Ivy league?

Yup. NYU is better.

LOL at the too optimistic posts.It is very possible the OP can get into the top of the T14. Harvard isn't out of reach. Just apply across the board and see what happens.

Doesn't matter for law schools. Go to the best school you get into. I wouldn't pick Columbia over UChicago just because it is Ivy League. There are many more important factors to pick a school over other than is the school Ivy League or not.

There are mid to high 160s with 3.5+ that got outright dinged at Harvard this year. Yes, there are a few extreme outliers who have gotten accepted, but OP's odds of Harvard are low. Still worth an app, I suppose. CCN is a bit of a reach, but it is more realistic. Definitely in at MVP and beyond.
Good luck OP.

+1, just don't be discouraged and apply wherever you want.

Possible to get in to Harvard =/= "In everywhere but Yale" type of certainty. Harvard is possible, but it's definitely not a lock.
I think he meant that OP could apply everywhere but Yale. Most people read "in everywhere but Yale"
