Law Programs for URMs

I have been increasingly interested in the the advantage of attending schools for their URM Law Program. In undergrad, I participated in one, and it provided two main benefits: 1) it was a great support that made its students much more competitive, 2) it allowed me to build a strong network that I've been able to tap into (important in law). However, I only know of a few schools with programs that are geared specifically toward supporting URM students. I think that there are probably others out there in TLS land who would be interested to know which top law schools offer programs like this. The only two I know of so far are below (first 2 ... The rest are thanks to other posters):

1) UC Hastings - Legal Education Opportunity Program (LEOP) (LinkRemoved)
2) Fordham Law - Academic Enrichment Program (AEP)
3) NYU - Bickel & Brewer Latino Institute for Human Rights Scholarship Program (LinkRemoved)
4) Rutgers Newark - Minority Student Program
5) University of San Francisco (USF) - Academic Support Program (ASP)
6) University of Wisconsin School of Law - Legal Education Opportunity (LEO) Program

I think this would be a good place to talk about what types of advantages program like this offer, and to discuss topics like weighing a school's general opportunities v.s. those for students in programs like these (that's just an example, feel free to bring up anything about URM Law Programs in general).

Also, please post information about other programs so that I can build a list for future URM applicants.

Thank you for contributing!

Thanks, but could you post a link for me to add? I couldn't find it on Temple's website. ...

I was kind of sad to see that BU doesn't have one. I am thinking of starting one when I go there :D Any other URM students going to BU this year wish there was one?

Not being a URM, I didn't pay much attention to the program. I didn't even end up applying to Temple, but I thought I remembered seeing something about it on the actual application-- maybe you could check it there?

Univ. of San Francisco has one as well called Academic Support Program. You can check a box during your application to indicate if you're interested or they can invite you (or require that you attend) once accepted:

From the application:
Academic Support Program
We recognize that the demands of a legal education are very rigorous
and may be especially challenging for those applicants who have been
culturally, educationally, economically, or historically disadvantaged, or
who have not been in an academic setting for a number of years, or
who have disabilities...

Does anyone have any experience with any of these programs? I would be interested in knowing what/if anything is different about being involved in one of these programs as an admitted student. For example, are there obligations to be a part of specific organizations for minority students?

After all, I'll take the boost in admission  , but not sure how enthusiastic I'd be about joining the Mexican Club right away.

I sincerely doubt this. No one is going to force you to join anything you don't want to join.

That's what I figure too, though I've heard that schools are somewhat interested in what you, as a URM, can contribute to the school in terms of diversity and involvement.
