What do American-Puerto Ricans check?

I am Puerto Rican, but both myself and my parents have been born in the US. Does "Puerto Rican" apply to only people from the island, or anyone with Puerto Rican ancestry?

Also, is there any info. as to what is viewed as better by the schools (in terms of affirmative action), e.g. would "Other Hispanic" be better to check than "Puerto Rican"?

Thanks!!

They're asking about your ethnicity, not your birthplace. If your concern is that you were born in the U.S., wouldn't that logic lead to you marking Caucasian?

It makes no sense. Your parents are Puerto Ricans, you're a Puerto Rican, so put Puerto Rican.
