UM full sticker 40k
vs.
FIU TTTT 14k
I am highly anticipating acceptances to both, but am unsure whether I will get money from UM.
I don't care about big law but I do want solid employment prospects in south Florida.
*need to live in SFL

Most people will probably tell you to go to U of Miami. I however, don't think Miami is worth going 120k in debt. Sure, the job prospects sucks for FIU, and there's a very real likelihood that you will come out making around 40k, but with Miami there's a big chance that you'll be making the same salary with 3x the debt.

That is what I am worried about. Of course I want to make 100k plus coming out of school, but if I have to start between 40-70k that is okay for the first few years UNLESS I have 120k in debt.

You should be on your knees begging for that.

FIU $$$ over UM any day. FIU isn't terrible, and they are getting better. Miami has some serious systemic issues, ie: paying half their class to defer a year.

What is your goal? If you don't have any biglaw desire, take FIU and minimize your debt load. It's an up and coming school in the region. Just avoid Nova and St Thomas like the plague

If you want/need to stay in South Florida and don't get $$$ from UM, 100% FIU.

I'll believe it when I see it.

UM 2 and 3Ls are struggling (anecdotal) right now ... not just finding 100k plus jobs but finding ANY jobs. Not that prospects coming from FIU would be better, but at least you won't be in crippling debt.

When talking about Florida (or football), UM = Miami.

You have a very loose definition of "good."

Yeah, I guess they're only T20 ... wouldn't register for you.

I don't concern myself with teams not able to secure a BCS bowl.

I don't think this problem is unique to UM, nor even to TTTs, FWIW.

+1. Jacory Harris is made of awesome.
ESPN is going to have a movie on "The U" in a couple of weeks. Saw a promo for it last night and am super excited. I'm pretty sure they had screenings at school and in SoFla, but I'm not there anymore

pearl_earrings wrote:What about Stetson?
They're not high in the rankings, but they have a solid reputation as a regional school.
Stetson is not a bad choice for the west coast of Florida. Keep in mind that Miami and Tampa are really secondary biglaw markets, if that. The legal market on the west coast of Florida is not very big. If you want to practice in Florida (or if you go to a school in Florida) I would advise against taking out more than 75k in loans, tops.
