Best and Worst -- Law Libraries

I have perused the "Best" law libraries
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... aw+library
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... aw+library
But they are all, aside from Cooley, t14.

I am not looking for the "best" law library, but knowing which ones are the "worst" might be nice... also if anyone knows of "pretty darn good" law libraries at t1 and t2 schools that would rock my... beak. :?:

While I can't speak to the overall quality of Lewis and Clark's library, I do know it is considered a US Patent and Trademark Depository Library. Could be helpful if that is your area of interest.

If there are any current Notre Dame students on the boards they can probably confirm or deny this but from the nifty virtual tour on the website Kresge Law Library looks pretty nice http://law.nd.edu/library-and-technology

Next year, our ENTIRE current law school building will be solely our library.

Our library now is kind of underwhelming, but next year it should be fairly intense.

OK- I'm just going to put my 2 cents in...
What the F&*% does it matter.
Law libraries are a thing of the past- a relic of the bygone days of opening books to look-up cases and statutes. Today, just need an internet connection and a Westlaw/Lexis password. My school has a new (2nd year it has been open) 14 million dollar 3 story law lib with everything from 60 inch flatscreen tvs to dozens of computer rooms, reading rooms, carals, meet rooms, etc, etc, etc.

Guess what- After the first few weeks of school- NO ONE IS IN THERE (in relation to the 600+ student body). It is used to wow would-be students and alumni (I guess).. but otherwise a total waste of space.

Worry about the type of faculty and students... the size and quality of the law library is (or should be) about as low on the priority list as possible.

Rant ends... now

I can't really speak to best vs. worst in terms of resources...but when I visited Cornell a few years ago, I was mortified by the law library. (This was 2000, so they could have renovated it since then.) Mainly what I remember is felling like I was in a bat cave in this crazy old building that was sort of dark and scary. I have friends who did undergrad at Penn State, and there are all of these urban legends about the library there. When I was in Cornell's, I remember thinking that I could totally envision something like that or possible a horror movie setting. And our tour ran into this professor creeping around the stacks practically in the dark. Very unsettling, enough so that the library is about the only thing I remember from my visit there.

That's hilarious. A picture of Cornell's library from one of the link's above showed it as pretty awesome (or at least I thought so) but I like this description much better.

All the more reason to go, in my opinion.

ND's is always packed with every table filled...which is partly why they're dedicating an entire building to it.

Where do you go that has a library that nice that isn't used?

I sneak into the UCLA Law library  Love the tables and chairs

You basically need to present an ID before they let you in...they prohibit non-Law students from studying there when it's near the end of the semester so Law students can study for their finals (which messes everything up for us undergrads who are on the quarter system :( )

GULC has a fantastic law library. Very traditional, the quintessential law library.

Now THAT is what I'm looking for. An intense library.

I for one, would love a cavernous law library where I can get lost and forgotten as I study and outline myself to oblivion, but my library is way too... social.... for that. It's open and airy, but that just means you can see everybody you know and be distracted.

I might head down to the GULC Library... I wonder if I can get in?

You should be able to, as long as you get there before the library closes and sign in as a guest.

Please dont ruin my romantic fantasy of spending my hours in a gothic-style library... curled up in my sweater with a cup of coffee and reading cases.

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil
