Was wondering why nobody is talking about this. Well deserved bump for Chicago.

Agree. It'll take at least one generation to change the ingrained and deep-seated notions of hierarchy in the legal profession. One year of a shake-up in the USN&WR isn't that powerful.

Just checked. Since 1992, YHS was never broken, and the rankings were very much consistent. H and S changed places frequently but top 3 remained the same.

Ya'll think about this shit too much. It's based on an equation that weights LSAT, GPA, graduate debt (new), and a few other things. It's not remotely tied to clerkships, top outcomes, etc. Harvard will still continue to be Harvard. UChicago will continue to be UChicago. Northwestern will continue to be Northwestern.

On one hand, it's hilarious. On the other hand, Harvard is still Harvard. But let's be honest, Ted Cruz and Ben Shapiro are to blame for this.

Any adverse consequences for NYU? I got admitted to both UChicago and Penn and turned both down to go to NYU

No consequences, but i know, it just sucks seeing your alma mater go down in these rankings. If there is to be any consequence like applicants favoring one school over another, these rankings would have to stay like this for the next few years.

All due respect to Chicago, but more likely it’s just YS now.

I actually think over the next couple of decades we're likely to see Chicago cement itself in the top 3 or at least consistently top 4. It's clearly better than CLS and NYU. It makes sense too, best schools on the east coast, west coast, Midwest/rest.

But Penn ahead of NYU makes no sense. Penn is a biglaw factory just like the rest, and its high stats are a function of proximity to NYC. Maybe NYU loses out because of some COA metrics?

i do think it does make more sense to say "YS" rather than "HYS". but i'm not sure what the next bracket would be in that case. HCCN? HCCNP?

That's just a one off year. Need to be 10+ years to solidify a new ranking in people's mind.

I agree. I have a feeling that schools will adjust to the new factors in the ranking methodology and we'll see a return to normal throughout the rankings next year. I think the New York schools in particular are going to need to find a way to make the schools more affordable.

Within the T14, NYU is still much better at placing into "better" BL firms, clerkships, and academia than Penn; the COA must be the difference maker here. The interesting debate, however, is whether Chicago is actually better than Harvard at this point, which it very well might be.
