Non-URM 160/3.13, Thinking Kent

Post by Another0Ler » Fri Feb 19, 2021 2:28 am

Hello TLS. Kent offered me $105,000 or $35,000 a year. I would commute via train and I am doing well with my investments to where I can pay off the remaining cost. Going to assume you say "Retake" but I think this is significant and I would be comfortable just being "a lawyer" in IL. U of I rejected me, could try and pump that 1 or 2 points higher since I do have these investments (crypto lol) doing extremely well. Not getting any younger though, I'm 27.

Kent's employment figures have not been good. But, due to your GPA of 3.13, I doubt that a point or two higher on the LSAT will enable you to get a large scholarship offer from a much higher ranked law school. Try lawschoolnumbers dot com for published medians of all law schools.

What are your career goals? I knew two Kent students who were above median but were really struggling with finding employment--and that was before the pandemic. Both now have short-term positions at two small Chicago firms but am not sure whether that will turn into long-term employment.

I think the older you get, the more careful you have to be about your law school choices, since you have less time to rectify career mistakes.
