Top Law Schools

Choosing between an Ivy (with about $50k scholly) versus a T20 regional (with about $95k scholly). Objectively, it seems like I should go to the Ivy, but my long term SO goes to the T20 and it's in a market where I'd like to work. Thoughts?

1st off you should clarify. Instead of saying 'ivy' maybe say T-10, or people may assume you're talking about cornell or YH. Nebby went to Columbia, so keep that in mind- he's likely saying take the t-20 over a t-4 even.

1)Is the Ivy Penn?
2.)Is the t-20 UCLA?
3.) Is your S/O hot? (and does he already have a biglaw job lined up?)

Seems like a no-brainer. Go to UCLA. You'll land an IP SA position as a 1L and make bank. You guys will get married. You'll finally get a horse. You'll live happily ever after. 'Ivy' means nothing- all that matters is happiness and job outcome ('prestige' of name is an expensive illusion, and to many, UCLA has more lay prestige than Penn)

Yeah, the Ivy distinction is meaningless without telling us what school it is, what market you want to work in, your total COA, and your career goals.

Agreed, there is a huge difference between the Ivies in general, and even moreso when talking about specific career goals. If you want to work in California, the South, or Texas, and are dealing with UCLA, Vandy, or UT respectively, and want something like biglaw there, and the Ivy is Cornell, absolutely take the T20. But if we're talking that price difference between HY and any of the T20, you'd be absolutely insane to choose the T20 no matter the market (especially since admission to one of those two with that big of a grant should let you negotiate for a full ride there).

It won't out you to tell us what you want to do and which schools we're talking about.

By the way, there is no such thing as an Ivy league law school. It's an athletic conference, nothing more.

My thoughts are that you're not going to get helpful advice unless you identify the schools, the COA at each school, and your career goals. You've made your question so vague that you're setting yourself up for bad advice.
