Michigan vs NYU vs Columbia

The offers I'm considering are:
Michigan ($120k)
Columbia (sticker)
NYU (sticker)
Goals are to do fed clerkships and enter biglaw (preferably in CA, but am open to NYC and Chicago as well). Thoughts? Would I be crazy to give up the $$ for the "brand" given my post law school ambitions? I would be financing everything through loans.

yes you would be crazy to drop that amount of money on whatever "brand" you think Columbia and NYU have over Michigan.

I don't think the CA big law that the op wants is all that achievable from any of these schools. Fed clerkship's are a small target. So NYC big law is a highly likely outcome. I think those who went to law school in NYC (clearly HYS also) just fit in better in NYC big law.

I would say Columbia and nyu are about equal with Michigan in California ( especially Northern California). All that ccn nonsense kind of goes out the window around here. Somebody might jump in and argue they have an ever so slight advantage in recruiting. Whatever the advantage is, it's not worth 120k. Go with the money.
Cn have an undeniable edge in nyc but it doesn't sound like you are all that jazzed about nyc.

Yes, not particularly enthusiastic about NYC. Right now, my hope for after college is to end up in SF/SV, Chicago, NYC in that order. Possibly D.C. as well. If all these schools have around the same chance at CA biglaw, would Michigan have an advantage in Chicago given Midwest representation? I know clerkships are a long shot too of course, but I'd like to maximize my chances there as well.
