It is hard to picture a scenario where law school would be the answer to getting out of misery. And with a 4.0 going somewhere with a 160 would be an incredible waste of that GPA

If you're miserable now, and considering six figure debt just to move away and start over, think of how miserable you might be forcing yourself into BigLaw for years or worse, ending up unemployed with 150k, 200k, or 250k hanging over your head.

That's a strange false dichotomy you're setting up there, IMO.

What could possibly be worth not giving yourself a better chance at great schools and scholarship money?

If this "horrible life situation" is related to having to live with/be near someone abusive or distasteful, then just move somewhere else and find a job to do for a year while you get your LSAT up.
If that's not the type of situation you're trying to solve, then it will continue to haunt you in law school, and it'll only become even worse because you're trying to handle 1L and your problem at the same time at a school that you could have gotten more money out of/is not as good as ones you could have gotten into.

being KJD and thinking the world is ending b/c your 21 or 22 and can't get the dream job your special snowflake self always thought you deserved for getting your BA in finger painting.
Basically the ONLY reason someone would toss this sort of opportunity is if they were wholly incapable of looking past the immediate next step in life. IMO not a good characteristic for an attorney. Gotta be able to see the long game

+1. OK, so you hate your current life. Here's what I'd do. Just take a look at a map of the USA, pick a city and look for jobs there. It won't be hard - you have a 4.0 and the economy is sailing along. You'll find a decent, livable job to do while you study for your retake. You won't be rolling in money, but it will only be for a year, and if you retake and get 170+, you'll have plenty of opportunities to get rich after LS.
Good luck.
