St. John's Full Scholly
Cardozo (27k/ year)
Fordham (10k/ year)

Never considered St. Johns, but with a full scholarship I now have to. While I don't want to chose a school based on what the financial situation will be, I cannot just ignore it. I really want to attend fordham, I believe my opportunities over there will be better. I just really don't know what to do. Can I even negotiate scholarships, and how can I go about that.

UGPA: 3.7
LSAT: 160

Can you post what the COA of each school will be? I'm not interested in calculating it for you.LST has handy spreadsheets and Georgetown also has a calculator.

You should know that with your GPA people are going to tell you to retake.

What are you goals?

I think you got low balled by Cardozo, they should be giving you a lot more than that.

St. John's is famous for killing their conditional scholarship at 2L. If the stipulation is to get top 60% or worse, don't go.

Yeah, we need to know your career goals here. You say that Fordham gives you better opportunities. Opportunities for what?

Yeah seems way low. Definitely negotiate more out of them.

they said all I have to do is maintain a 2.15 GPA, seems very reasonable

To be honest nothing specific, going in with a very open mind.

Not a great starting point, but I'll keep an open mind. Do you see yourself working for a firm? As a public defender? What draws you to law school to begin with?

An open mind is dangerous without any direction with these schools, you should better define your goals before making this decision. From all of these schools minimizing debt is the goal, since you have little control over your outcome.

Figure out what type of attorney you want to be, go from there.

According to their 509, over half of students with scholarships lose them. So you might want to ask a current student just how reasonable keeping that GPA is at that school.

And to echo the above: you need to be at least a smidge more specific about your career goals. Do you want to be a lawyer at all? Private or public practice? What kind of salary do you envision getting after school?

Apparently St. John's is arguing that their ABA Required Disclosures currently don't reflect their top 60% conditional scholarship for incoming 2017 folks:
Please note that the retention statistics in the ABA Required Disclosures are for a different retention policy than the one above. Under the old policy, students had to remain in the top 40% of the class (above 60%) in order to retain their entire scholarship.

But obviously all conditional scholarships should be taken with a grain of salt.
