Is there a signifacnt drop off from the 21-30th ranking

Post by SunDevil14 » Wed May 11, 2016 12:26 pm

Ideally, I would like to attend USC, but I have not heard back from them. I have been accepted to a few schools that rank from 21-30. I know there is special emphasis placed on the top 20 schools. I am curious as to what is the drop off, and or significance in small differences in rank.

I have been admitted to the following schools all with good scholarships, but I remain skeptical.

University of Minnesota rank 22

University of Indiana rank 25

Ohio State University rank 30

As in your previous thread, you are exceptionally bare in answering the important questions: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 1&t=206299

To answer your general question: Generally, it's T14 --> everyone else --> TTTT. T14 will have more national reach. Everyone else will be more regional (region, state, city) as you go significantly lower in the rankings per region/state, unless the schools are peers.

Thanks, your post answers my question.

I have been aware that people on this forum prefer plenty of specifics, although at this point my questions are quite general.

Small differences in ranking aren't as important as location when you're talking about regional schools without a national "reach". If you want to work in Ohio, OSU would probably be a better choice than UI, despite being ranked slightly lower.

I am aware you want a specific answer, although my answer will be quite general.

There is no difference other than their location. They are strong regionals and nothing more.

Don't worry about rank. Focus on:

1. Where do I want to work?
2. What schools have the best employment outcomes for the region I want to work in?
3. What is the size and projected growth of the legal market in the region I want to work in? Is it going to be hard to get a job in the market even as a top student because the legal market is small?
4. If you don't know where you want to work, go to a school with national reach, which usually means a T-14. Understand you may still be limited to the market local to the school, NYC, and a market to which you have ties, unless you have great grades/hustle/luck.

Use http://www.lawschooltransparency.com/ to figure this out.

They are all regional. Pick the one where you have ties and want to practice.

Those are regional schools so choose the school in the state you want to work in.
