Top Law Schools

Hey all. I want to practice law on the west coast (Southern California, LA), preferably big law at first.

Scholarships are over 3 years.
I cannot retake and reapply due to unique circumstances.

UCLA- $67,500
Georgetown- $45,000
Chicago- $15,000

Please give me advice. Thank you.

IMO, Chicago warrants the extra $50,000 -- compared to UCLA -- as it 1) has better big law placements than UCLA and 2) more options should you need an exit option out of big-law as this sentiment seems to be for many big law shooters.

Also, if you are sure you want to pursue big law for however many years, the extra $50,000 should not be a deterrent from attending Chicago. I'm sure some will disagree but given the information, Chicago has my vote here.

After big law perhaps in house or start my own firm civil litigation, torts, negligence, personal injury

Career goals are uncertain. Biglaw until I can't handle it and then civil litigation mid size or start my own firm in So cal. Possibly in house if I can get a good gig down the road.


I will be financing entirely though loans. I will try to pay as much as I can with summer associate position if I can get one.

The latter career goals should be reevaluated after law school and few years in big law. Right now, in reaching closer to your goal of Biglaw, Chicago makes the most sense from a purely number/placement standpoint.
