GULC $ vs. Fordham $$

Hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time deciding between Georgetown, which offered me 20k a year, and Fordham, which offered me 35k a year. I'm looking to go into prosecution or human rights ultimately but would not be averse to working a few years in BigLaw. The cost of living in DC is obviously significantly lower than the cost of living in the Upper West Side in Manhattan ($1200/month vs. $2200/month). If I were to go to school at Fordham, I would likely commute from Queens ($650/month). I absolutely loved Georgetown when I went to visit, and I liked Fordham too but significantly less because it had much more of a corporate/rushed vibe.

GULC means about $170k in debt and Fordham would be $78k. What should I do?

I just checked your profile, and you have a 4.0. I hate being the first to say this but honestly you really should retake the LSAT. Your 4.0 with a 170+ LSAT will get you MUCH better outcomes than Fordham and Georgetown.

I've considered that but I do not have a job lined up and I'm not very confident that my LSAT score would improve. Given the information I provided, would you tell me to go to GULC or Fordham?

Well I mean the only thing stopping you from getting a higher score is that negative attitude. But if you're 100% against a retake, do you want to work in New York or DC? What kind of work do you want to do?

Everyone is going to tell you to retake, just letting you know.

You are doing a disservice to yourself and your career by not retaking. You're looking at two extremely expensive schools, both of which are unlikely to land you biglaw, and certainly not human rights.

You got a 4.0 in college. I'm sure you're no stranger to sucking it up and grinding out some studying when you have to. Shake these forums down for all the LSAT tips and advice they have. You'll improve your score on your retake and have significantly better offers next cycle. Good luck.

If you don't want to retake, and must choose 1, I would say GT (disclosure I go to GT). Although we don't do as well as any of the other T14 in Biglaw, we still do decent. I know of so many ppl that landed Biglaw and if you are above median, you should be okay. I think you'd have more chances at GT than Fordham for Biglaw. Fordham does do well in NYC, but I don't think that's a problem for GT. Also you can consider other factors between the schools, like clinics and opportunities you might be interested exploring during law school. Like a lot of students do judicial internships, externships at gov agencies, and there's a ton of public interest work. The debt between the two is less of an issue if you're okay with doing BIglaw for a few years

Thank you! Definitely leaning toward Georgetown.
