Deadline Date for Deposits: Post-Marked or Recieved?

Are deposit deadlines the date by which your deposit needs to be received, or are they the date that your letter of intent needs to be post-marked by? For example, if a deadline is May 2nd, does the Admissions office need to have your deposit in their hands on May 2nd, or does your deposit just need to be mailed by May 2nd?

As mentioned, it depends.
But if you want to avoid all the uncertainty, most schools are taking deposits online now. Seems like that's the easiest option.
