If you're fine working a few years outside of PNW, why not apply to Cornell? They would probably throw huge money your way.

Of these option Michigan is the run away winner... It places well around the country and you're getting it at a great value.

Michigan really seems right to me, though obviously anything you can do to make it cheaper will help.

Am I right in assuming that you applied to Berkeley and didn't get it?

Cornell scholarship could change this considerably.

Also, WL at GULC is pretty surprising, waitlist at Duke is mildly surprising, and I'd expect NU admit. Did you apply late?

Oh, then don't count them out. The timing of Cornell's scholarship notification does not correspond with dollar amount.

Yeah, applied late to NU. Status checker indicated my application was at least complete so there's that.

And yep, dinged at Berkeley =(

Yeah, I was surprised at the WL for GULC, too, but it is what it is.

Not sure how much Cornell would have to offer for me to go there instead of Michigan?

First, I'll be surprised if Cornell does not give you more money than Michigan. It also depends on your employment goals (whether you are okay working in biglaw and maybe defaulting to NYC biglaw if you miss out on other markets), and LS geographical preferences. I think the T-10 differentiation on this forum is completely asinine and should not figure into anyone's calculus. Despite whatever the Michigan apologists say, I have always been uncomfortable with Michigan's employment numbers. I think if you are willing to work in NYC biglaw for 2-3 before making a jump to another market/in-house, then Cornell is a safer choice than Michigan (only if scholarship offers are equal). Although, there may be other factors to consider such as Michigan's superior LRAP for PI.

Heard back from Cornell. 150k total.

The thing with NYC is I'm okay with doing biglaw there, but I'd really prefer a different city if at all possible, so even though Cornell places really well there, I'm not sure it'd be the best choice in that case.

Go to Cornell, mass mail your home market, do OCI for NY as a fallback if you strike out at home, lateral back after a couple years.

At equal cost I'd prefer Mich for non-east coast markets, but they're unlikely to come up enough. Doesn't hurt to ask, tho.

Don't do NYU sticker with your options, so that leaves Cornell and Michigan.

Definitely go with Cornell.

1) $45K difference in scholly with Michigan.
2) With biglaw, Cornell places slightly better than Michigan, although I'm not sure about PNW right out of law school. Cornell's location (close to NYC) and smaller class size will help you land biglaw over Michigan.
